About Us
The Hunting & Conservation Program is an organisation within The Sporting Shooters
Association of Australia (NSW) Inc.
We are actively involved in game management and
conservation initiatives within NSW. This enables us
to help local landowners with feral pest problems;
this in turn provides both our
participants
and future
generations with hunting opportunities.
To achieve these aims we have two main programs;
-
‘Buy Back The Bush’ with the aim of purchasing
rural lands and using these for recreational
hunting by our
participants
-
‘Pest Eradication’ where with the help of our
accredited
participants
we hunt on private properties
that need our assistance.
Our
participants
achieve accreditation when they complete
a course of various modules including bushcraft,
navigation, bullet placement and marksmanship.
This accreditation also enables our
participants
to apply
for a Game Council R Licence. Other initiatives of the
SSAA NSW Hunting &
Conservation Program include;
-
Educating our
participants
on ethical hunting and
Rural protocol
-
Helping local landowners with conservation
projects
-
Introducing new
participants
and juniors to hunting
with supervision of experienced
participants
-
Providing information through newsletters and
various other publications and information on pest control exercises
-
10 % discount on accommodation fees on
properties owned by the SSAA (NSW) Inc.
-
Hunter magazine every quarter
-
“Landowners Letter of Permission” for
participants
wishing to use the Program to satisfy their
‘genuine reason’ for hunting under the Firearms
Act.
The SSAA NSW Hunting & Conservation Program is open to all
financial members of the
Sporting Shooters Association of Australia
The NSW Firearms Act allows Hunting Club membership
as a genuine reason to own a firearm. The Act has a
requirement for the member to complete TWO
compulsory attendances. To make this requirement
easier SSAA NSW Hunting & Conservation Program has several
ways participants can record their attendances.
Workshop Attendances:
Hunter's days and other activities organised for H&C
participants (signing of the SSAA NSW Attendance Book
required).
Range Attendance:
SSAA Ranges - sign the SSAA NSW
Attendance Book as proof of attendance
Non SSAA Ranges - forward a
receipt or statement of visit to SSAA
NSW Office to record attendance
Tilterweira Station Hunting
Trip:
Sign the SSAA NSW Attendance Book at
the Station.
Members Hunting Activities:
A pest control activity can be used as a record of a
SSAA NSW H&C
participant's attendance. The activity
maybe initiated by the H&C
participant
and
undertaken on private land or a Game Council NSW activity / R
Licence hunt.
A copy of the
Registration of a pest control
activity
must be forwarded to
SSAA NSW office
to
record an attendance. |
